...so given that st. louis is primarily made up of catholics, i thought today i would find out what everyone is giving up for lent? i've been pondering giving up something myself even though i'm not catholic. it's a nice idea to keep the easter season forefront in your mind and give you more time to think about Christ's sacrifice. every time you think about the fact that you "gave ____ up for lent" you're remembering God's gift of his son.
...i think i will give two things for lent this season (i'm going overboard for my first attempt, i know). 1) i am giving up soda (diet and other). 2) i am giving up online shopping (including browsing!). the online shopping is a bigger vice for me than the soda...but both worm their way into my spending habits and money is definitely something i struggle with in my daily life.
in my search of lenten traditions, i've also found that it is common for people to "add" things for the season as well. i plan to add daily devontional reading to my life. i am currently reading an excellent book by henry blackaby entitled "experiencing God" i plan to finish this book and then continue a daily devotional time with either another book or just my bible.
...ok, so what is everyone else doing? fess up so i can hold you to it!
