...well, it's nice to know i'm not the only one...

...i have been getting a bit tired of persecution based on my love of harry potter. i realize that there are many groups against the stories of this young boy and the magic school he attends. but before ranting and raving--take a look at this article published in the christian standard magazine. i think it raises excellent points and voices everything that i have felt from the beginning regarding these books.

please engage in discussion. i'd love to hear what others have to say...

Great article! I am a Harry Potter lover too, and I'm not a religious person so the Christian opposition to these books has been difficult for me to understand. I think they are, pure and simple, wonderful stories, and I have appreciated, as the author of this article does, how the complexity of the characters has increased as they grow into adolescence. I'm currently reading _Goblet of Fire_ to my 6-year-old son and am wary of reading _Order of the Phoenix_ to him, just because it is so much darker and Harry is such an accurate depiction of a sullen 15-year-old boy in that volume -- I'm not sure how much my son will be able to identify with him or understand a lot of the story at six. But we shall see.

Can't wait to read the new one! :-)

You gotta love how organized religion just swoops in and starts picking on something like a crow picks at road-kill. At least there some people out there who can look past the 'sinful' magic and say "hey, you know, this boy didn't shoot anyone and wasn't all about getting into someone's pants". So what if he abracadabra'd a thing or two.

Now - Don't get me wrong. I think blood and guts has its place. I'd consider myself a church-goer and all, but I just love to watch a good thriller. Seeing someone get disembowled on a 100 foot screen just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside! I also enjoy some good ole debauchary on film too. When your only option in life is to live vicariously by watching the hot guy actually get the hot girl; then you don't ask for that to be taken away. Why, oh why, couldn't my name have been Ryan Phillippe?

What chaps my backside is the holier-than-thou crowd, (aka Parents for TV Council, and the American Family Association) that want make sure I don't have that right in my own home or at my local theatre. They whine and moan over the little butt grope to Harry Butthole Potter waving his magic wand. For those people, I've not got a magic wand, but rather a magic finger I'd like to wave. But since I said I was church-goin' and all I'll wave all my fingers and call it camoflauge.
